"Restaurants, shops and pubs to rival many a bigger city"

The UK’s seventh richest city, and the mythical home of Robin Hood, has restaurants, shops and pubs to rival many a bigger city.”

Shopping

With over 1,000 shops, Nottingham is known as a major shopping destination and is consistently rated as on of the UK's top retail spots. The Market Square is the centre of the city and home to major high-street stores. In the surrounding area there are:

  • two shopping centres, the Victoria Centre and the Broadmarsh Centre
  • a number of well known department stores and high street shopping areas including Low Pavement, Bridlesmith Gate, Lace Market, Hockley, Clumber Street, Wheeler Gate and Lister Gate

In the historical Hockley area of the city you will find independent retailers and boutiques selling retro, designer and alternative gear, contemporary designs and club fashions.

The Exchange Arcade and Flying Horse Walk house an array of quality goods varying from designer clothing and quality leather products such as handbags and wallets to beautiful artworks, gorgeous cheeses and deli delights.

If vintage is more your bag then take a stroll up to Hockley, Mansfield Road or Derby Road where you'll find quirky vintage garments, retro furnishings and vinyl records galore.

Designers

For those who have a penchant for high-style then Nottingham is the place to be - these are just some of the designers that have outlets in the city:

  • Vivienne Westwood
  • Hugo Boss
  • Kurt Geiger
  • Karen Millen
  • Ted Baker
  • Paul Smith

Fine food markets

There is more to shopping in the city than fashion. In addition to the markets and deli's dotted around the city, the Market Square hosts a Fine Food Market which is held on the third Friday and Saturday of every month.

Eating out

In the city

As a city of many cultures the variety of eateries on offer is broad. In the city centre, Lace Market and Mansfield Road areas of the city you’ll find an array of places to grab a quick snack or linger over a lunchtime or evening meal. These range from foreign foods to fine-dining, seafood restaurants, pizza places, American diners and great quality pub dining.

On campus

Hidden away in the beautiful grounds of the University Park Campus is the University of Nottingham's very own restaurant, The Hemsley. Here you'll find a deliciously imaginative menu. Perfect for when your parents are coming to town.

Splash out

Located just down the road from the University is Nottingham's own Michellin-starred restaurant, Sat Bains - definitely one for those of you who don't mind blowing your entire student loan on one meal!
