"It has been really helpful in making decisions about what to do with my own future, and also in learning about meeting people I wouldn't normally have any reason to get to know."

Student Volunteer Centre

The Student Volunteer Centre helps students find volunteering opportunities within the local community, the Students’ Union itself and overseas. With over 100 projects to choose from students can always find something that matches their interests, course or career aspirations.  These include getting involved with projects in:

  • art or archaeology
  • community sports and youth coaching
  • environment and conservation
  • school support and mentoring
  • overseas projects in Tanzania, Cambodia and Uganda

They even help students set up their own volunteering projects. Take a look at the many projects that would welcome your help.

Why volunteer?

Just donating a little of your time can have a lasting effect on the project and people you volunteer for and influence your life in a variety of ways. You will:

  • gain new skills and experiences
  • help others
  • meet interesting people and make new friends
  • make your CV more attractive to future employees

If you find it hard to commit to regular volunteering hours there are also opportunities to volunteer for just one day.  Previous one-off challenges have included planting an orchard, painting playground murals and even building a pig paddock.
