The University of Nottingham is committed to promoting access for students who have a disability, dyslexia and/or a long-term medical condition. Services provided aim to enable students to fulfil the inherent requirements of the course as independently as possible.
What students need to do
Students are encouraged to make the University aware of their individual requirements. Students who have a disability, specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia) or long-term medical condition are urged to inform their personal tutor and/or the Disability Liaison Officer for the School (see below). The School has a Disability Disclosure and Confidentiality Policy through which students can choose to request that information concerning their circumstances remain confidential between themselves and the staff member to whom they disclose. Letting us know what you might need at an early stage will help us to help you.

Academic Support in Student Services includes the Disability Support and Dyslexia Support teams, and offers a range of academic and practical support for all students. Academic Support can provide information about Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA's) and, as a registered (NNAC) Assessment Centre, the assessments required by LEAs. Academic Support is responsible for making recommendations for alternative arrangements such as those required in examinations, assessments and for time-tabling.
Assistance can also be given with regard to queries about adapted accommodation and University provision of accessible transport.

Complaints procedure
Students are encouraged in the first instance to resolve a complaint directly, informally and quickly with the person concerned. Staff dealing with complaints are encouraged, whenever practical to meet with the student face-to-face and to explore remedy sought by the student and to foster a mutual understanding. We expect most complaints to be resolved in this way. Please see link to our complaints procedure for further details.
The University also has a Disability Policy Advisory Unit which assists in the development of University policy and procedures relating to disability and their compliance with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001.
University libraries also provide support and facilities for disabled students.
