Dr.Tew Peng Kooi is the Unit Coordinator for the Compulsory Subjects Unit. He first joined the university in the year 2002 and was previously from Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Dr. Tew Peng Kooi is interested in Malaysian history, specifically the history of the formation, evolution and development of communal and non-communal political parties in Malaysia. This interest is in accordance with his PhD thesis which was on the history of one of the non-communal political parties in Malaysia, namely Gerakan Party, between 1968 to 1990. Apart from this, his current research also includes the study of the political situation in this country particularly the impact of the 2008 General Election on Chinese-based parties in Malaysia such as MCA, Gerakan and DAP. He is also interested in research involving ethnic relationships, general elections and the biographies of several political key figures in Malaysia such as Tun Dr.Lim Chong Eu, Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Dr. Tan Chee Khoon.
