Biography
Mary Bailey joined the staff of the School of Education in 1996 and is a member of the Centre for Research in Schools and Communities (CRSC). Previously, she taught English and media studies in comprehensive schools in London, Leicester and Nottinghamshire, in her last post as a Head of English. She has also tutored for the Open University in education and in cognitive psychology.
Since joining the School of Education, most of her teaching has been in initial teacher education. She currently contributes to teaching on the PGCE in Society, Health and Development and the Graduate Teacher Programme. She is also involved in Masters teaching and development, and is centrally involved in the development of the new Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) for the East Midlands. She also supervises research students working for MPhil and PhD degrees in areas related to her research interests.
Mary has presented papers at conferences and has published in the areas of study support, mentor development, partnerships in initial teacher education amd literacy. She was also a member of the University of Nottingham teams for the following independent evaluations: NCET Multimedia Portables for Teachers Pilot , Boots Books for Babies, MLA Literature Matters, Derby City Study Support. She is particularly interested on the impact of educational policy initiatives that involve partnerships in different forms.
