Biography
Qualitative research methodology and methods:
· arts-based methods - use of creativity in the collection/analysis/interpretation of data · visual methods including photography (montage and collage); interpretations of research data triggered by viewing artistic works in the public domain · auto-ethnography - use personal story to illuminate culture; ethical issues in the construction of autoethnography; use of heuristic methods · ethnography - in depth investigation of specific groups and phenomena in actual and virtual spaces; use of portraiture as a method · performance - ways of presenting data via performative media that give voice to marginalized groups · narrative - role of story in revealing new understandings of phenomena; use of narrative fiction in telling difficult, sensitive stories. · Relationship with activism - role of subjectivity and implications for validity/trustworthiness Potential research contexts and foci: · affective experience and education: experiential learning, Lifelong personal development, Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education · communities as social spaces: Identity, social space and sexuality; school ethos and micro-politics · gender, masculinities and identity: working class masculinities and education, masculinity and sexuality, intimacy in men's relationships · queer identities: homosexuality, heterosexism, homophobia, heteronormativity ; LGBT teachers and students in education spaces. · sex and Relationships education: practice, context and culture; HIV/AIDS education
