Research Degrees
The School of Education at Nottingham is a leading centre for research in education, with a broad commitment to improving and investigating social justice and equality in education. The School is part of the Nottingham ESRC DTC (Doctoral Training Centre), one of just 21 centres to receive accreditation by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Nottingham was chosen due to its excellent track record of fostering multidisciplinary research developments; its coherent vision and strategy for the promotion of social sciences; and a clear relevance to the global perspective of issues covered by social science research.
We encourage highly motivated, enthusiastic and talented students to apply for a postgraduate research place in the School of Education. We provide a dynamic research environment where research students study alongside academic experts. Entry is very competitive and having a strong research proposal is therefore very important.
Our research programmes are made up of approximately 230 students from 40 different countries. Some students are studying and living here in the UK while other students are based in their own country with periodic visits to the UK to see their supervisor(s).
We greatly appreciate the contribution made by all of our research students in the life and work of the School. Whilst it is easy to become very focused on individual research, we strongly urge our students to take advantage of the expertise, activity and facilities that we have to offer.
