Entry requirements

Academic requirements

Below is an approximate guide to entry requirements for students from Sudan for admission to The University of Nottingham at the following levels.

Foundation

For applicants who have taken the Sudan School Certificate (formerly called the Secondary School Certificate or Higher Secondary School Certificate) we require 5 x C grades as a minimum, with Bs in relevant subjects for Business, Engineering and Science Foundation courses.

For further information about our foundation options, please visit our undergraduate prospectus.

Undergraduate

For those students that have completed the Sudan School Certificate, an appropriate foundation programme is required.

Students who have completed one year at recognised University post high school study may be considered for direct entry onto a bachelors course.

Students taking A levels or the IB should refer to the online undergraduate prospectus for entry requirements.

Students taking APs or SATIIs should refer to entry requirements for the USA.

Masters

Unless applicants have attended The University of Khartoum or The University of Sudan, they must have a masters degree for entry onto our masters courses.

For applicants from the University of Khartoum, we can acccept a GPA of 6.5 - 7.0 out of 10 (equivalent to our 2:1) for their bachelors. We may also consider those with a GPA of 5.75-6.49 out of 10 (equivalent to our 2:2).

Applicants from The University of Sudan with a first class degree (which is equivalent to our 2.1) for their bachelors can be considered for MSc courses here, and those with a 2.1 (equivalent to our 2.2) may also be considered.

For more information, please see our postgraduate prospectus.

PhD & research

A masters and bachelors degree from a recognised university are usually required for PhD entry.

Exceptional students may be considered for PhD entry without a masters qualification, but this is rare and would be more suitable for New Route PhD applicants.

For all research degrees, we recommend that you make initial enquiries with a potential supervisor or the relevant University of Nottingham school / department before applying.  A research proposal is required when submitting your application.

For more information, please see our postgraduate prospectus.

English language requirements

To study at Nottingham, you will need to demonstrate a required level of English language proficiency. In addition to the more common language qualifications - such as IELTS, TOEFL, (I)GCSE, O level, IB and A and AS level English - the University also considers a number of other English language qualifications for admission.

English language courses

Our Centre for English Language Education (CELE) offers a range of English language courses.

These courses are designed to prepare international students with the required language skills for academic study at The University of Nottingham.
