The Language Centre team is actively involved in and supports a range of projects as follows:
Refurbishment of the SAC led by Marisa Marmo, in conjunction with IS and Estates. This is a HEFCE-funded project which has led to much improved facilities to support students' language learning in the Trent Building (floor C).
The One Stop Language Shop is an e-learning project led by Oranna Speicher. This will provide a comprehensive bank of language learning materials for students in all language departments in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, at all levels.
The Language Curriculum Evaluation and Development (first year of post A Level language studies) project is led by Maryse Wright. The first part analyses students' experience of language learning at A Level and in their first year in higher education. The second part is the production of e-learning materials by a team of language teachers of French, German and Spanish. The materials are for Year one and Inter Faculty Stage 4 students and will be accessible through the One Stop Language Shop.
Le Varietà dell'Italiano is an e-learning project by Marisa Marmo and Cecilia Goria. The project targets advanced (post A-levels) students of Italian and offers a language package which focuses on the varieties of the Italian language. It aims at developing students' awareness of the different registers of the standard language, of the main features of regional Italian and of the linguistic tools employed in the sectoral language.
The Cultural Exchange project is part of the SMLC Virtual Learning Lab project. It is led by Oranna Speicher and it will help develop e-links with students from partner HE institutions in France, Germany and Spain.
The Integrating the Year Abroad project is led by Cecilia Goria. This e-learning project pilots the use of e-portfolio for the Year Abroad students in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures.
