Conferences

The Department regularly hosts significant research events such as:

  • the Fifth Biennial International Conference on Music in Nineteenth Century Britain (July 2005, keynote speaker: R. Larry Todd)
  • the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Royal Musical Association (July 2006, keynote speaker was Prof. Annette Richards)
  • Third Biennial International Conference on Twentieth-Century Music – attended by over 150 delegates from around the world - was held at the University in June 2003 (keynote speakers: Georgine Born and Louis Andriessen)
  • the one-day RMA Conference on the music of Samuel Wesley was organised by Prof. Philip Olleson in December 2003

Our graduate students have also arranged their own research events. In 2000, a research student's work on Janácek sources formed the focal point of a one-day Janácek conference, and in May 2007 the Graduates hosted a Study Day for the RMA, entitled Music and (Con)text: Interdisciplinary Challenges (keynote speaker: Ben Walton, Jesus College, Cambridge).
