International context

The University of Nottingham welcomes students and staff from across the world to its campuses in the UK, in Malaysia and in China.

There is an international dimension in all our activity. By focussing on intercultural communication, our teaching promotes respect for all cultures and development of the personal interactions between our students.

Our courses:

  • are internationally relevant
  • give you the opportunity to study abroad with one of our many overseas partner institutions

International community

Whichever campus you choose as the base for your study, you’ll be with students and staff of many nationalities, therefore enriching your learning experience.

The added interest of learning about the countries and cultures of others is of great value to our students, with the additional benefit of this knowledge and understanding often relating to their courses.

Our staff structure projects and group work to help take advantage of the breadth and depth of experience that our international student community offers.

International curriculum

As an international university, we seek to locate our courses in the global context. Your studies will be informed by the international research community, in which many of our staff are personally active.

You will:

  • learn to find and evaluate information from a wide range of perspectives
  • build your own views with an awareness of the wider picture

Our academics are ideally placed to help you appreciate the international dimension to your studies.

Studying overseas

The benefits of studying overseas are not limited to language-related courses. In an international employment market, graduates with knowledge and experience of other cultures, and the skills to operate successfully within them are highly valued.

At Nottingham, you might choose to:

  • study for part of your course at our Malaysia or China campuses
  • take advantage of our exchange programmes with global Universitas21 universities, or a range of European partners

Collaborating across campuses

The courses that run on our campuses in Malaysia and in China are closely related to those that run in Nottingham. That means that:

  • our staff work together with international colleagues
  • you may have the opportunity to work with students across the world

Shared online resources can form a base for common areas of study, with local lectures and seminars providing the context and discussion opportunities.
